3 Things to Simplify For Better Results
SIMPLIFY. Focus. Innovate
Here are some ideas on how you can improve quality and productivity when you simplify:
- People sometimes ask me how they can improve their presentations. One of my suggestions is to cut their presentation by 1/3. Editing down almost always improves the quality of your message. Caryn Marooney, Head of Technology Communications at Facebook, says, “If your message isn’t unbelievably simple, you’re missing the point,” she says.
- Learn the difference between opportunity and distraction. Most people think that “doing more” is the key to success. The opposite is true. High performing companies or individuals aren’t the ones who do the most. They are the ones who do the most important things and do they with consistent excellence. That takes focus. Steve Jobs said, “I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things we have done. Innovation is saying ‘no’ to 1,000 things.”
- Make it easier to do business with you. The marketplace absolutely LOVES anyone who can make things easier to understand, easier to access, easier to use, or easier to buy. Making things complicated is easy. Making them simple is hard. Really hard. But it’s worth the work because, as Jobs said, “If you can make things simple, you can move mountains.”
