A Mickey Mouse Way Of Doing Things
My friend, Jerry Coffee, was a Vietnam POW. When he got home, he bought a Mickey Mouse watch to remind him to keep things in perspective (as in, most of our problems that we stress about relentlessly are small, small stuff) and to lighten the hell up about the ups and downs of everyday life.
It inspired me to get my own Mickey Mouse watch (pictured) and, believe me, it really does help my attitude to look at Mickey a few dozen times a day.
One thing I’ve noticed about truly effective leaders is that they have a great sense of perspective. They don’t panic. They don’t lose their cool. A great leader’s sense of equilibrium helps keep the entire organization focused and constructive even in the midst of unexpected challenges.
You don’t have to get a Mickey Mouse watch to remember to stay calm and carry on, but it couldn’t hurt.
Through it all, remember what’s really important: people, and…..well, that’s pretty much it…..people.
